Fieldstone Farm Project

Fieldstone Farm Update - Onwards and Upwards!

The campaign to protect Fieldstone Farm is charging ahead, following the positive support from the people of Princeton and the state in 2015! Many thanks to State Senator Harriette Chandler and State Representative Kim Ferguson for their support on the local and state level.

What happened in 2015?

Last year, we gathered a team to develop a blueprint for protecting Fieldstone Farm. Together, we worked with the landowners on a plan for purchasing their land, and then began fundraising to reach our ambitious $3.1 million goal. In December, the town received a state LAND grant for $400,000 and the people of Princeton voted favorably at Town Meeting by over 2/3 (241 yes to 94 no) to contribute $250,000. Both were key steps in assembling the necessary funds to purchase the property.

What are we working on now?

To reach our goal, we are seeking funding from multiple sources, including local and regional foundations, state funds, individuals and businesses. Specifically, we are working diligently to receive money from:

  • the Agricultural Preservation Restriction (APR) Program, which has consistently rated the farmland favorably in its analysis;
  • the City of Worcester, as Cobb Brook on the property drains into the Quinapoxet Reservoir, one of the city’s improtant public drinking water supplies;
  • Dept of Conservation and Recreation  and the “Mountain Fund,” as the property is “in and around” Wachusett Mountain State Reservation;
  • the sale of the protected farmland to a farmer; and the sale of the exisitng farm house
  • the potential sale of 3 lots for private ownership, without compromising the conservation values of the rest of the farm;
  • donations from people who care about the protection of this landscape!

We need your help!

We need to exercise our option to purchase the property, with a non-refundable down payment, by March 30. In order to make that decision to move forward, we need your support to help us get closer to our $750,000 private fundraising goal! This is a rare opportunity to make a difference in the landscape of central Massachusetts. We have already raised $369,450 and we need your support to reach our goal!

Please consider supporting the protection of Fieldstone Farm – we can’t do it without you!
